About the Proton (XPR) snapshot and airdrop:
A snapshot will be made at Ethereum block #9773868, which should occur on Monday, March 30th, around 1:00 PM GMT.
This snapshot records all of the balances in the MTL ecosystem and every account with a balance will be credited Proton tokens at a 1:1 ratio. So if you had 1 Metal token on the snapshot date, you will receive 1 Proton token.
The airdrop will follow shortly after the snapshot has been completed.
Where do I need to store my Metal tokens to receive the XPR airdrop?
Any valid Ethereum address capable of storing MTL tokens can be used. While we understand you may have stored your tokens on a centralized service (such as an exchange, wallet service, lending platform, etc.), there are some limitations that you should be aware of.
Even though these services usually honor airdrops, we cannot guarantee they will; if you wish to have access to your Proton tokens immediately, the safest option is to move your Metal tokens to an account that you have full control of before this snapshot occurs.
Metal Vault and Metal Pay are our recommended wallets to claim the Proton (XPR) airdrop because Proton (XPR) is listed as an ERC-20 token by default for your convenience. You don’t need to take any other extra steps, in order to claim the Proton (XPR) airdrop when you hold MTL in Metal Vault or Metal Pay.

Metal Vault is a web wallet that allows you to store Bitcoin, Ethereum and ERC-20 tokens. It’s developed by the Metal team, that is merged with the Lynx team to build the Proton blockchain. Proton (XPR) is listed as an ERC-20 token in Metal Vault by default.
How to set up a Metal Vault account to store MTL and XPR
Setting up a Metal Vault account is easy, follow this guide on how to create an account. A Metal (MTL) and an Ethereum (ETH) wallet, that can store ERC-20 tokens, will be automatically created upon account creation.
Make sure to store the Metal Keycard safely and securely. It can be used to regain access to your account if you lose access, by forgetting your password for example.
How to send MTL from another wallet or exchange to Metal Vault
Once your account has been created, you can send your Metal (MTL) tokens to Metal Vault. You can do that by clicking on the Metal wallet. Next, click on the ‘Receive’ tab to send a transaction. Here is a guide on how to receive a transaction in Metal Vault if you need more guidance.
How to claim XPR in Metal Vault
For every MTL you hold on Metal Vault when the snapshot occurs, you will be credited XPR at a 1 to 1 ratio when the airdrop happens.
Once the airdrop has taken place, your XPR coins will show up on Metal Vault automatically, as you can see in the image below You’ll be able to send or receive XPR as a wrapped ERC-20 token from the Ethereum wallet in Metal Vault.
You can view the balances of ERC-20 tokens under the tokens tab in your Ethereum wallet. To view tokens with no balance, click on the ‘View empty balances’ option.
Metal Pay allows you to buy, sell, send, receive, convert, deposit and withdraw crypto with ease. Metal Pay is a mobile crypto wallet and payments app that has been developed by the Metal team, that merged with the Lynx team to build the Proton blockchain. Currently only available in the US, but the Metal team is working towards global availability.
